Primary Aldosteronism

Abstract
Primary aldosteronism, one of the surgically correctable causes of hypertension, is a syn-drome due to excessive secretion of aldosterone from the adrenal cortex, and most cases are secondary due to small solitary adenoma. But a few are caused by adrenocortical carcin-oma and bilateral adrenal hyperplasia.
Since¢¥ Conn¢¥s first description about this syndrome in 1955, the diagnosis and treatment methods have been advanced. With the development of bioassay for the measurement of pla-sma renin activity and serum aldosterone level, the diagnostic criteria for the primary aldo-steronism have been sharpened, and the advent of more refined technique in localization of the adenoma have made the unilateral adrenalectomy the operation of choice for treatment of aldosterone producing adrenal adenoma, rather than the bilateral approach.
Authors experienced 3 cases of primary aldosteronism recently which were due to single adrenocortical adenoma, and these cases ate reported with a brief review of literatures.
